DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Vancouver

The restaurant food was absolutely atrocious, and unless they change it, I’ll avoid it next time. That’s the only reason I’d give this place 4 stars. Otherwise, it’s a great hotel in a great location, with very friendly staff. Renovations are almost done, and the new rooms are much better than before. I’m excited to see how everything looks once the work is complete.

People leave things behind by accident, and you’d think a hotel would do a better job getting them back to you. I called because I’d left my Roku plugged into the TV with its remote in the room. It took two days for them to find it. When I drove over, they only had the Roku unit, not the cord that had been plugged into it and the wall, or the remote. I can understand missing the remote, but how do you lose the cord attached to the Roku they found in the TV? Anyway, don’t leave anything behind here. At least I won’t have to change my passwords. Still, I have a feeling they handed me some random Roku they had, so I guess I’ll find out.

The remodeling is underway, and it was disappointing overall. Check in was slow even though we’d already checked in online, because we still had to sign a pet waiver for one room. The elevator wasn’t working, and the stairwells were dirty with peeling wallpaper. The hot tub was out of order. Our room smelled overwhelmingly of something like adhesive, almost toxic. We had 3 rooms booked, each supposed to have 2 queens and a hide a bed, but there was no hide a bed in any of them, just 2 chairs instead.

There was no mention online that renovation work was happening, and the room wasn’t acceptable. The bathroom ceiling had mold, the linens were dirty, and the lamps and other appliances were damaged. The smell was overwhelming and made me nauseous. I booked through a corporate app for a work trip, arrived at 10pm, and stayed just one night before cancelling the second. The hotel shouldn’t be hosting guests in this condition and should close until the renovations are finished.
