Americas Best Value Inn Vandalia

For a road trip stop, this was a nice place. The room was gorgeous and clean, with no carpet, which I love. The front desk guy on duty at about 10pm Jan 20 was really nice. My one gripe was the lousy toilet paper.

The room was clean and quiet, and the heater worked fine. The basics were okay, but the conditioner dispenser was empty, which I only discovered in the shower, and breakfast wasn't ready at the stated time. The clock radio had no batteries or power cord. When I reported it, the desk clerk said, "oh, it's nit a radio." I pointed out it wasn't a clock either without power or batteries. He said, "ok, I will check, we just put them in all the rooms so people won't ask".

The rooms were clean, and I really enjoyed breakfast in the morning. The staff were very friendly, respectful, and accommodating. Great place to stay, in my opinion the best in vandalia.

The bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure, and the linens were stain-free. The room was quiet and clean, with no carpet, which I liked, and the $20 pet fee applied. The large King Suite felt cold and echoey, though, with a tiny TV on the dresser. It had only a very uncomfortable little sofa bed and a desk chair to sit on while watching TV, even though there was lots of space. A club chair would make sense. The counters run along the entire wall, which felt very weird. The bedroom was also large, but had a tiny TV. The smoke detector had no batteries, and the heat took ages to warm the room. Breakfast was sparse, just 2 sausage patties and fried eggs, with rock-hard biscuits. We killed 2 bugs, one looked like a roach and the other was a thousand legger. I think a regular King room might be better.
