La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Ventura

Our room was fresh, clean, and quiet, with new floors and paint, and the beds were very comfortable. The pool and hot tub were nice, though we didn’t try breakfast. Outside, the landscaping looked good and the fresh paint helped, but there was homeless stuff under the staircase. We arrived at night and had no trouble in the well-lit parking lot. I’d stay again.

We slept well during our three-night stay. The bed was comfortable, the room was dark enough, and I didn’t need earplugs. The location was convenient, and bringing our dog cost an extra $25 a night. It’s an older place that could use paint, and the carpet stains were gross enough that I didn’t want to take off my shoes or socks in case they were from another pet. The fridge was set so cold that our drinks froze and exploded inside, so check it before using it. Breakfast was our main complaint: only carbs, no eggs, bacon, sausage, or yogurt, which hotels usually offer.

The location worked for our needs at 3am, just four minutes away, but we were very unhappy with the stay. My boss booked through American Express, and although I showed the confirmation and receipt proving it was prepaid, the woman at the desk insisted it wasn’t. She argued with me, my coworker, and American Express, then told the American Express representative how to do her job. Completely unprofessional. Our room was dirty: there was old paint in the tub and broken bits of something on the toilet. The fridge was cool but not cold, the sheets looked worn, and the beds were only comfortable enough to sleep on. The bed seemed free of bugs, but the room had a faint urine smell. Pets are allowed here. Breakfast was available, but we chose not to eat because of our overall hygiene concerns.

The rooms were great for the price. We had a king, with enough space to entertain if traveling with others, and it was clean and laid out well. Staff were helpful and breakfast was available. I’d stay again when passing through. I took off a star for housekeeping because we didn’t have enough pillows or towels at check-in. They fixed it quickly, but we shouldn’t have had to ask. I’m not sure what some of the other reviewers expect, and the claim about rats sounds like someone was hallucinating, unless they passed out by the garbage bins at the back.
