Super 8 by Wyndham Big Cabin/Vinita Area

I was nervous after reading some bad reviews, but the stay was nice. The carpet looks ugly, though it seemed new, and the bed was comfortable. Everything was nice and clean. We had a king efficiency on the second floor of the building at the back. I’d recommend the place.

We booked while on the road because the reviews looked good, the price seemed reasonable, and Wyndham’s endorsement made it sound like a decent place to stop. It was a horrible decision, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We reserved two queen beds, but got doubles, which felt falsely advertised. Around 11:30 at night, tired and needing the bathroom, we found there wasn’t any toilet paper. My husband had to go ask the office for some. The room had a heavy mold and mildew smell. The carpet was dirty, damp, and sticky enough that the kids put their shoes back on. We were uneasy about sleeping in the beds because of the smell, but we were exhausted and worried we wouldn’t find another room that late. By the time we’d gotten toilet paper and used the bathroom, it was past midnight and we couldn’t cancel for a refund. We left without breakfast. At 8:30 there was little out besides a waffle maker and bread for toast, and we didn’t feel comfortable eating there given the room. We had ten more hours to drive home. Within 20 minutes, our car smelled like the room. Even after showers, our hair and clean clothes stank. We still smell it, with three more hours of driving to go, and the first thing we plan to do at home is shower. Either we got their worst room, or the reviews are outdated or staged. Also, my husband and I both felt something was off about the property, like we were being watched. I have no proof, just a gut feeling. We’re both pretty aware of our surroundings, and it was creepy that we shared that feeling. We didn’t feel safe, and left dirty, hungry, smelly, and barely rested.

We arrived late and were so tired that we stayed, though otherwise we would’ve left. The room was disgusting and smelled strongly of mold. Turning on the heater made it smell as if it might catch fire. The floors looked filthy and every surface felt sticky. The bed looked clean but smelled moldy too. We got about four hours of sleep before leaving. I know it was a cheaper place, but they should at least keep up with basic cleaning.

The front desk staff were so great, and the breakfast was decent, but sadly we won’t stay here again. We’ve stayed here every year for family events for 14 years. Last year, our King room was decent and felt clean. This time we had a Queen room, and I was shocked by how nasty it was. The carpet was stained and dirty, and the carpet, curtains, and bedspread didn’t match. I can’t believe this is a Wyndham property. The swimming pool door was broken, and there were frogs and mold in the hot tub. I have pictures.
