Sea Dog 5 Bedrooms 3 Bathrooms Home

We arrived with the kids on a holiday trip expecting just an affordable, simple place near the ocean where we could sleep. Instead, we found a quietly magical little gem. There was a warm feeling as soon as we walked in, and the staff were genuinely kind and helpful. A reservation hiccup could have thrown things off, but they sorted it out quickly and professionally. It was humble in appearance, but gave us peace, sincerity, and a feeling of being welcome that no five-star hotel could offer. We left with full hearts and plans to come back.

I almost called to make up some sappy reason to cancel, but we decided to give the hotel a chance. The front desk staff were all pleasant. We skipped room service one day, then learned it was only offered on Mondays and Tuesdays, which was no big deal. The rooms smelled because they're all smoking rooms, but that didn't bother me much. I checked the beds when we arrived and found no bugs. One of the small burners didn't work, but again, not a big deal. It was an inexpensive hotel for our last-minute 4th of July trip, and overall I was pleased.

The staff were very nice when we arrived. We put our things in the room, walked along the beach, came back for a break, then went out again. When we returned to sleep, I lay on the bed for a bit before deciding to check the sheets more carefully. There was a bed bug crawling on my pillow. I showed my friend, and I got a video and a couple of pictures. It was around midnight. We showed the video to the woman at the front desk, but she barely looked at it and said she could see it. She asked if we still wanted to stay. We said no, and she told us to go through booking.com for a refund. The nearest other hotel was an hour from our destination, so we didn't arrive until about 2:30am. The next day we drove by and saw the cleaning lady in the room. I assumed they'd rented it to someone else without properly fumigating it. When booking.com contacted the hotel to authorize the refund, they refused because the cleaning lady hadn't seen any bed bugs. That made me think again that they'd rented the room to someone else who might now have bed bugs. I now have a bag of clothes I'm afraid to bring into my house, and I feel like my car could be contaminated too. It sickens me that they won't refund us. I feel they knew the room or facility had an infestation, and I'd never stay here again.

Everything we came to the beach for was easy to reach on foot, and the staff were really kind. The room was clean. It’s an older place, but nowhere near as bad as the negative reviews make it sound. I’ll definitely come back.
