Volcano Forest Inn

The stay left us stressed and frustrated, and I’d urge future guests to be cautious. We arrived during the stated check-in hours, but the host wasn’t there and the doors were locked. There was only a letter with our name at the entrance. It told us to contact the host on WhatsApp, and said we’d get the door code only after paying an extra USD 80 cleaning fee. That fee hadn’t appeared in the Booking.com listing or during booking. With no other place arranged and a closed property in front of us, we felt forced to pay. The host later wouldn’t accept responsibility and said Booking.com was to blame, leaving us to contact them ourselves for a refund. The handling of the whole thing felt very unprofessional. The room also didn’t match what was advertised. The promised breakfast amounted to a small selection of snacks and fruit in the kitchen. In the bathroom there was dirt, rusty screws, and spider webs on the ceiling. Requiring payment of an undisclosed fee before letting guests in is unacceptable. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had.

The toilet clogged on my last day, and the breakfast was basic and unappetizing. Being near the park was the one positive, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the rest. I also found out about an $80 cleaning fee only when I arrived, with a note saying my room would be canceled if I didn’t pay. I hadn’t been told about it beforehand. The room stayed cold even with the heater on. The bed was noisy and very uncomfortable, and the bedding was poor quality, so I had a hard time resting. I was deeply disappointed and can’t recommend this place. There are plenty of other options at more competitive prices.

The communal kitchen and lounge were cute, and the proprietor was really friendly and helpful. My dad and I had a spacious room with two beds and a beautiful view from our lanai. We loved staying here. Recommended!

John was a really friendly host, and there’s a big common area with a full kitchen guests can use if they want. Our room was large and very clean. The place is beautiful, tucked away in a quiet spot in the forest. I’d recommend staying here when visiting the Volcano.
