Aloha Crater Lodge and Lava Tube

The garden and entrance were nicely kept, and the location was close to Volcano National Park. Those were the positives. We had booked three nights, but left after two and booked a hotel in Hilo, giving up the third night. The room smelled strongly damp as soon as we entered, and opening the windows didn't clear it. The shower was moldy and so gross that I couldn't bring myself to use it. The microwave was badly stained inside. Our linens were dusty and unclean. I don't have known allergies, but my face and neck got so itchy each night I couldn't sleep. Eventually I threw away the big pillow, wrapped the other one in my clothes, and put Gold Bond on my face and neck. There wasn't much privacy either. The curtains were shabby and see-through at night, and the walls were paper thin, so we heard everything next door. The hot tub was out of service while we were there.

After a long day, we arrived very late but were shown to our room and made to feel welcome. It was spacious, with two queen beds, a kitchenette, and a room with a toilet and shower, all cozy and comfortable. The hosts were delightful and helpful. In the morning, we stepped out into a beautiful tropical setting full of greenery and flowers. The place has an eclectic, bohemian feel and a warm aloha spirit. Hawaii Volcano National Park is just 5-10 minutes away. We spent a lot of time there enjoying volcanic activity, which was a dream experience for us.

The owners were lovely and managed to fit us in at the last minute. This is a really cool little lodge about two miles from Volcano National Park. They left us oatmeal, fresh fruit, and other snacks, which were great to have before a long day of hiking.

The grounds were lovely and made me feel like we were in the jungle. Our cute B & B near the volcano had a room with personality, two beds, a mini kitchen, and a shower bathroom. There was a funky smell in the room, but we enjoyed our time there.
