At the Crater's Edge

Roosters, coqui frogs, and rain were the sounds that gently woke us. This rainforest cabin retreat feels quiet and away from the tourist scene, with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors. We had a balcony or porch, a hot tub, heated bathroom floors, heated toilet seats, and even a heated bed. There were complimentary snacks, drinks, and champagne too. All we could say was WOW. ❤️

We stayed at the Crater's Edge in Feb 2026 and plan to return. There are two guest rooms in a rainforest-like setting, surrounded by lush plants, with beautiful wood and glass architecture. Our spacious room was beautifully furnished, and the king-size bed was very comfortable. The bath felt like a high-end spa, and there was plenty of complimentary food, snacks, and drinks. A lovely place in a pretty setting, and ideally located for anyone visiting the national park.

Chris and Erik made our stay memorable with their hospitality. Their hiking and dinner suggestions were great, and they kept the room supplied with thoughtful snacks, coffee, and tea. Fresh homemade BANANA BREAD baked every morning was a treat. The room was clean, spacious, and romantic, and the hot tub was a nice reward after a day of hiking. The tree frogs outside made the experience incredible.

Dave was so welcoming and friendly, replying to every request within minutes. When I hurt my ankle in Volcano Park, he brought ice packs and bandaging right away. My husband and I spent four nights in this restorative, almost magical oasis. The beautiful room came stocked with breakfast foods, coffee, fresh fruit, and snacks, which could be replenished on request. They also emailed local restaurant information ahead of time, helpful since there aren't many places to eat and availability is limited. The idea is to give guests complete privacy, so there is no cleaning service during the stay. There's also a very charming dog on the property. It barked occasionally, which didn't bother us, though it might bother some people. We were delighted with our choice and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a beautiful retreat near Volcano Park.
