Chalet Kilauea

The self-serve check-in was easy, and arriving at any hour was convenient. Still, I wouldn't pick this place again. We booked about a week ahead for a last-minute overnight on the Hilo side, and it did the job for one night near Volcano. But the room looked dated and could use an update. Dust on the light fixtures and bathroom vents was especially off-putting and made me wonder about general upkeep. The koi pond water was murky while we were there, and you can hear a lot through the walls, which could be tough for light sleepers. We couldn't drink the coffee shown in the listing, so we went out to get some. If you just need somewhere near Volcano National Park in a pinch, it works, though there are plenty of other cozy, distinctive places to try on the Big Island.

The king room looked out over a peaceful koi pond, and the electric fireplace added a nice atmosphere. It was clean, comfortable, and free of mold and critters. The setting in the jungle was gorgeous and felt tucked away, with a quiet sense of having the place to ourselves. It's about 10 minutes from the park. Check-in and checkout were simple, and the price was reasonable. We've already told our friends and would book again on our next visit.

We had a huge, clean room, including a very spacious shower. The self check-in was convenient, and the guest supplies were kept in a separate room. There's plenty of parking for everyone, and the location is handy for Volcanoes NP.

We slept really well and had everything we needed in the suite. It has a big kitchen and bathroom, in a setting that feels like the middle of a rainforest. The pond was pretty, and the coffee in the morning tasted good. A wonderful stay.
