Hampton Inn & Suites Waco-South

John was wonderful with our softball group of more than 30. The hotel is a little dated and could use some cosmetic updates, but the location is easy and convenient. We had no problems over a long, exhausting weekend of games, and the group even took over the lobby for some adult fun without anyone objecting.

We were meant to stay two nights, but left after one. The front desk gave us a refund almost immediately the next morning when I explained what had happened, though no manager came to speak with us. We couldn't get another room, so we stuck it out in 319, which was miserable. There were a lot of roaches, not just one or two, and I saw and killed several. The entry light didn't work, the ironing board was broken, the AC leaked onto the floor, and we had to ask for more towels. I didn't want our things touching anything, so we kept them zipped up at the foot of the bed. The carpets were filthy, the walls looked like paint had been smeared over dirty spots, and the hallways were very hot and smelled bad. On Saturday morning, several guests and I waited about ten minutes for someone to show up at the desk. The location and the staff we actually encountered were the only things I could say were good. Hampton Inn shouldn't charge this much for a stay like that. Get an exterminator and replace the carpet.

At this price, the place is awful. The room's mini split didn't work, and the key stopped working at 7 a.m. Breakfast at 6:15 had bagels as hard as rocks, and the food seemed days old. I could get that at a Motel 6 for $50. They ought to cut the room rate by $60. Is this really a Hampton? It needs to be torn down.

We paid $430 for two rooms for one night and had a frustrating stay. I booked on September 17 for October 24 and specifically requested connecting rooms, but at 3 p.m. we were told none were ready. We took separate rooms, though having the group together was why I'd requested connecting ones in the first place. In one room, the toilet wouldn't flush because there was no water in it. We were told to hold the handle down, which we did, and offered a replacement room on another floor. We stayed put because of the group. After breakfast, around 9 to 9:30, our keys didn't work and we had to go downstairs to get them reactivated. Staff weren't helpful and were rude. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
