We were a family of four and spent ten days here in January. The screen porch was one of our favorite places to sit, and the kitchen had what we needed. The place is furnished nicely, has a good sized cable TV, and even the coffee maker worked. It’s rustic, maybe shabby chic, and was a comfortable fit for us. There’s no AC, but in winter we didn’t need it. The ceiling fans and breeze coming up from the ocean through the canyon kept things cool. Waimea itself didn’t impress us much, though we weren’t in Kauai to shop or hang around town. Beaches were an easy drive away, and Local Market has great poke. This is on the island’s hot, dry southwest side, which suited us in January since we’re from the Great PNW and wanted to get away from the damp. You need to be happy being away from the buzz, close to nature, and driving to the beaches instead of stepping out from a hotel or condo to get a poolside drink. That kind of stay worked for us, and we loved it.
