We loved the fireworks view and the transportation choices, but this will be our one and done stay. For what it costs, I didn't feel we got much, perhaps a stocked fridge and some small snacks would help. Other Deluxe resorts even bring quick-service meals to your table. The atmosphere felt very boring, the blankets were too thin, and the bathroom door locks were broken. The ferry was down, and clearer directions around the property would help. The price just didn't meet our expectations.
The Grand Floridian is gorgeous, and I loved the Victorian, upscale look. The walk to Polynesian was a great extra, while the path from MK was beautiful and a welcome way to get out of the crowds quickly at night. Having the monorail so accessible was fabulous too. I stayed in a preferred-view villa on the top floor, looking out over the lagoon and Poly. The room was spacious, with a roomy double-sink bathroom counter, handheld steamer, hair dryer, robes, plenty of hangers, and great water pressure. I loved the drink station with microwave and fridge, and especially the old music playing on the TV each morning. The ladies at the little necessities shop were great every day, and my Mousekeeper was a sweetheart. This was my first GF stay and it was fabulous. I'm already planning another visit.
We spent most of our recent visit enjoying the pools and exploring the resorts, with just one park day, and the Grand Floridian remains one of our favorites. It's a classy place with a great location and lots of food options close by. Being near both the monorail and boat makes getting around very convenient, and the service is top notch. We were there with our growing immediate family. The pools could use hot tubs, which surprised me for a luxury hotel, and the ones there were crowded with young kids playing and diving. I'd also like a quicker, more convenient coffee option, something like Rivera. We'd stay again, though I hope those two things get addressed.
We had a wonderful stay at the beautiful Grand Floridan, and the location is fantastic. The problem was that most rooms apparently aren't ready by 4. We were told the cleaning staff was behind. For a resort averaging $1000 a night, that's unacceptable.
We were excited to finally try the Grand Floridian as DVC owners, but the points and nightly cost mean we won't return. The DVC building is separate from the main resort, and for that price it would be nice to have a coffee shop with snacks, like the Joffrey's coffee shop at the Contemporary. The main advantage is how close it is to the Magic Kingdom. I'd choose Bay Lake or Polynesian again instead. Our 2 bed/2 bath had very firm, uncomfortable beds. We ordered two extra pillows and two blankets. Housekeeping brought four blankets, then the woman gave me attitude when I asked about the pillows and said I hadn't ordered two, even though we definitely had. She shoved the blankets at me. I figured she might have had a rough day and didn't want to make it worse. When she came back with the pillows, she pounded on the door with the key instead of knocking gently, waking the kids, shoved the pillows toward me, and left. I thanked her as she walked away. My sister needed a room key, so we asked the Cast Members in the DVC building foyer. An older woman looked at my sister as if appalled and asked condescendingly, "are you actually staying here?" I couldn't believe it. We've stayed at almost all the DVC and regular Disney hotels and never had this happen. We can check this one off our list and know not to stay again.
