Breakfast was a nice surprise, with waffles, eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit, a small parfait station, juice, and cold water. It was a good meal before getting back on the road. We booked two rooms, and the hotel put them next to each other as requested. Check-in was easy, too. We were traveling north from Florida and stopped about halfway. The rooms were decent, though my husband thought ours smelled like dog pee. We had a pet-friendly room for our cat, so I guess that might be expected. I didn't smell that, but the air did feel kind of heavy. It seemed like a safe area for the night, and Ruby Tuesday, McDonald’s, and Waffle House were close enough to walk to. Floodlights shone into the room at night. I thought the price was a bit high, but I'd stop here again.

The price worked for a one-night stay, and there's a great pizza place across the street. Our reservation was for the second floor, but they quickly offered us a first-floor room when they heard my husband can't manage stairs. The room and bathroom were clean, though the room had a slight musty smell. There were lots of outlets, including USB ports, and bottled water at the front desk was free. I asked for another blanket, and it was brought to the room within 10 minutes.

My wife didn't notice any smell, so maybe it's just me, though a few other reviews mentioned one too. The room seems clean so far. We've killed several flies, and new ones keep showing up. Management moved us to an upstairs room. It seems like fly season in South Carolina, so I don't blame them for that. The price gives you a pretty clear value comparison: this was $100 a night, while the Holiday Inn Express down the street was $200.

We got good value for the stay at Best Western of Walterboro. The whole property was tidy and looked well cared for, and the front desk staff were especially warm and welcoming. Our updated room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and breakfast was pretty decent.

The first room they gave me was so filthy I went straight to the desk asking for my money back. They moved me to another that was only a little better. It has the feel of a hot sheets motel, and I can't wait to leave. I paid $150 for me and my dog, but it was worth maybe $50. Stay away, you'll regret it.
