Wamego Inn and Suites

The pool is awesome in summer, and the breakfast is the best. Rooms are clean and good, too. The people working there are great, and the staff are wonderful.

The room and dining area were too hot, with the A/C off or not cooling enough. I was glad I kept my lounging clothes on, because changing would've made me even more uncomfortable. Still, I was very pleased with the stay. The people were super friendly, which makes a huge difference when we travel as much as we do. Our business double queen room was very clean and spacious for an affordable price, and my kids were super happy and comfortable, so we could relax, too. This stay made me more open to giving hotels like this a chance over the name brands.

That free breakfast was subpar, and the woman working there made it feel strange by standing and staring at everyone getting food. She seemed to hover, rather than just checking on the food or being available to help. The night clerk, by contrast, was super friendly and helpful. When we arrived, we dropped off our things and went downtown for a walk. The room looked dated, which didn't bother me, but we noticed it wasn't clean when we returned. My oldest could see how filthy the top of the plastic tub and shower was. There was an adjoining door, and it wasn't locked. When I tried the lock, it barely turned, so I wedged the room's chair between the TV stand and wall to keep the door from opening. The A/C also didn't work well, so we were hot all night. It was late, and we didn't ask to move rooms. The day after we left, my 8-year-old daughter woke up at our next hotel and said she'd slept well and was happy the bed wasn't sticky. That worried me. I asked her a lot of questions, though she didn't understand why, and now I have to have an uncomfortable conversation with her pediatrician because I can only guess what the sticky substance might have been. I keep thinking about the couple in the adjoining room, who could've accessed ours for hours while we were out, before I realized the door wouldn't lock. I also felt watched by them before I noticed the lock problem, and the way they acted made me think of them. I can't say for sure it was them. I can only hope the hotel used soap pods or something that didn't rinse away fully. I'm disgusted and very concerned, and I would never stay at this hotel again.

The inn was very nice and clean, and the breakfast they provide in the morning is much better than most hotel continental breakfasts. There isn't an elevator, so if walking up a flight of stairs is a problem, ask them for a first-floor room.
