Sussex Motel

The grounds were lovely for walking our dogs, and we could reach a fantastic pizza place on foot. Local attractions were an easy drive away. The owner was AMAZING, very responsive and helpful, and really went the extra mile for us. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Highly recommend for travelers on a budget.

We had dinner next door at Yamato Hibachi, where my kids had a great time, then picked up breakfast at Holland American Bakery, which also sells Deutsch products. We’d planned two days of skiing at Mountain Creeek, about a 13-minute drive away, and Sussex motel was a great find for our family with two children. The receptionist was very nice and considered our needs. Our room was renovated and very clean, with comfortable beds, a large fridge, and a microwave. Staff were always responsive and caring. We’ll return for our next ski trip. Call Sussex motel directly instead of booking through a third party.

I paid $90 for a room I never used at Sussex Motel, and after more than a month of being told I’d get a refund, they said I wouldn’t. They claimed a mix-up with my name, then said the refund was against their cancellation policy. That made no sense to me after the representative cancelled my reservation on the phone and promised my money back within 10 business days. The booking was January 28, and it’s now March 2. I called for weeks after the 10 days, but they wouldn’t answer; when I finally got through, they said they’d ask a superior what happened. I called again for an update and got the refusal. This was disgusting and beyond unprofessional. I reported the motel to the Better Business Bureau, The Advertiser News North, and Sussex County Court for taking my money and having misleading information online. My lawyer is reaching out too, and they aren’t answering. I hope this review protects others from a horrible experience. When you google this motel, third-party sites like Expedia show vacancies, but nowhere do they say it isn’t open 24 hours. My house lost power and heat in a bad snowstorm, so I booked a $90 room in the middle of the night and found the motel closed. My phone battery died, and I was stranded in a snowstorm at 3 AM. Thankfully, a stranger at a nearby gas station guided me to a highway with other hotels that really were open 24 hours. DO NOT BOOK THIS MOTEL!!!

In the middle of a nasty snowstorm, the staff greeted me so kindly and got me into a beautiful room right away. It was spacious, very clean, and nice and quiet. They’re unbelievably kind and caring. I’ll definitely keep booking here.
