The Grand Resort

Our daughter’s wedding at the Grand Resort on 11/1/25 turned into a whole weekend, starting with a welcome party on 10/31 and ending with brunch on 11/2/25. I had only 3.5 months to put everything together, and it became a wonderful “Grand” event. The rooms were great for our many out-of-town guests, who all had lovely things to say about the hotel staff throughout the resort. The event coordinators worked closely with me for months, accommodating our needs and making sure every detail came together. We had lots of personalized touches, and they worked so well with the wedding designer we brought in. Every staff member was amazing. We can’t thank them enough for helping make our daughter’s wedding the wedding of her dreams.

We’ve decided we’d come back, despite the chaos, odd plumbing, and midnight noise. We had a fabulous time, though I may be saying that through a haze of lost sleep. When we checked out, renovations were underway in some rooms, and we saw what looked like real mattresses replacing the concrete-like ones we slept on. That gives me hope for future guests. We figured out the toilet had been switched off for renovations. The “secret switch” fixed it easily, but maybe a Plumbing Escape Room should be listed as an amenity. The late-night noise was an impromptu surround-sound concert from other guests, with infomercials and bass coming right through to our room. No elevator to the second floor meant hauling luggage up two flights, though the resort did lend a hand. It was a complimentary CrossFit workout with suitcases. The beds were incredibly firm, like concrete slabs, and I’ve slept on airport carpet that was more forgiving. It was chaotic and imperfect, but we still laughed and made memories. If this really is the “#1 resort in Ohio,” I have questions, but apparently we’re willing to return and investigate. I do highly recommend the resort as a destination.

There’s plenty to do here, with indoor and outdoor pools, exercise facilities, a good restaurant, and more than one bar. The recreation building has a bar, TV room, games, and an outdoor tennis area, which was under repair on 2.20.26. Rooms are comfortable and nicely furnished. It’s a great place to stay in or near Warren, OH.

We stayed in February of 2026, about an hour from home in Ohio, and it was very convenient. Our room was ready even though we arrived a few hours before check-in. Everything was clean except for some empty water bottles under the dresser, which seemed like a housekeeping oversight. They also had emergency items like a dental kit, a nice touch I hadn’t seen at a hotel before. We had lunch at the atrium. It wasn’t anything special, but the price wasn’t outrageous. We’d booked Gatsby at first, but after comparing the menu prices with the reviews, chose a nearby steakhouse instead. We later stopped at Gatsby for a drink. The piano player was a nice touch, though it felt more laid back than I expected, and sitting close by, we sometimes weren’t sure he was playing. We loved the cigar lounge, which had a very different atmosphere. We went to the wine bar twice, once before heading to the Roman bath, and both times service was slow. There was one bartender, and two people to serve that many guests would probably help. The Roman bath was nice, but we heard it stays around 92 degrees, and with it 19 degrees outside, a few more degrees of warmth would’ve made a big difference. There was an outdoor heater, but it wasn’t on. Pool towels were available, but we had to ask around before learning we needed to get them from the indoor pool area. That night we wanted to watch our Friday show, but, like many recent reviews say, the WiFi was down. The front desk attendant just said IT wasn’t there. I was surprised by the lack of sympathy or urgency. At a resort in 2026, working WiFi feels like a basic expectation. They could’ve offered a small treat or a glass of champagne to make up for the inconvenience. I asked for a manager to call the next morning, and they offered to credit 20% of the room fee. It sounds like a recurring issue based on many reviews over the last several months, so bring an HDMI cord and connect your phone or iPad if you want to watch something besides hotel ads. I’d consider another visit in summer, when there’s more to do during the day, but in winter we probably wouldn’t come back.
