Canopy by Hilton Washington DC The Wharf

My only small complaint is the lack of free breakfast. There aren’t microwaves in the rooms either, though there’s one available in the hallway on every floor. Otherwise, this may be the best DC hotel I’ve stayed at. The rooms are new and clean, the shower is amazing, and the bed is very comfortable. Staff were attentive and brought extra blankets quickly when I asked. The location is terrific, near good restaurants and within walking distance of the monuments.

Alex at the front desk was a pleasure to talk with and made me feel welcome at check-in. The hotel is modern and clean, and my room was very nice. I didn’t get to see much of the area since I was in and out quickly, but I’d come back.

The hotel itself is really nice, conveniently located, and has beautiful scenery. But the room hadn’t been cleaned properly: we found someone’s glasses under the nightstand and chocolate candy beneath the little clothes-hanging thing. My girlfriend told the front desk, but no one took responsibility. The response was that maybe a little kid had left it there, with no apology. I didn’t want to turn it into a big thing, so I let my girlfriend handle it.

The room and location were great, but service on my last visit was disappointing. I’d stayed at the property more than a dozen times over the past three years without trouble, but this time the hotel smelled like weed throughout. Front desk staff weren’t friendly or helpful, and several billing errors went unresolved, with no reimbursement from Hilton. Canopy by Hilton gives Hilton Diamond members an $18 daily food and beverage credit, but the charges weren’t handled correctly. During my nine-night stay I ate at the restaurant several times, and my card was charged even when I was under the $18 limit.
