Kimpton Glover Park Hotel

The rooms were bigger and nicer than I expected for the rates I paid, and having Whole Foods and CVS just down the block was very handy. This was supposed to be a convenient choice because it was the closest hotel to where I needed to go, but I liked it enough to book two more times. On my last visit, the toilet was running when I arrived. I called the front desk, and someone came by to fix it within a few minutes. When my plans changed at the last minute on this most recent booking, the manager was very accommodating.

The restaurant is the standout here. The food was exceptional, full of flavor, and beautifully prepared, and the attentive, friendly, professional staff provided excellent service. The hotel itself is cozy and comfortable, with a very convenient location among embassies and consulates, especially useful if you’re visiting on official business. But I expected more for the price. At this cost, the hotel could offer a higher standard or charge a bit less. If a great location and an excellent restaurant on site are what matter most, it’s a solid choice. If you want good value in every area, you may want to look at other places nearby.

On Sunday I enjoyed exploring Georgetown’s farmers market, and it was handy to have Whole Foods and CVS nearby for anything I’d forgotten. DCA Airport is only about a 15-20 minute drive away. This was my second stay at the Glover Park Georgetown Hotel, mainly because it’s so close to where I needed to be. It’s an older hotel, but my room was impressively spacious, with a comfortable king-size bed, room to open my suitcases, a small foyer, a closet, and a large mirror. It’s affordable and the service was good. They kindly held my suitcase and carry-on so I could spend the day out before checking in later that afternoon. Breakfast isn’t included, but Divino has an all-day menu with good options. I tried the coffee, and the drink and service were excellent, especially from the friendly male bartender. The area is beautiful, and the hotel offers good comfort and convenience for the price. Four stars feels right.

The room was minimal, but much larger than the ones I’ve stayed in at other District hotels. I liked the neighborhood: it has restaurants, Whole Foods, CVS, and whatever else a traveler might need. It’s busy, but a little tucked away from the main bustle, so it’s quieter. I checked in late with a very friendly, professional front desk staff member. The 4.1 Google rating and three-star hotel rating seem fair to me. Could the place use updates or renovations? Sure, though it’s also fine as it is.
