Sleep Inn & Suites Washington near Peoria

The place has gone downhill over the years. Kai, a young woman working there, was awesome, and if I could rate her alone, she’d get five stars. The elevator was out during a storm, which might explain it, but I felt bad for an older couple, especially the man who could barely walk, having to use all those stairs. My room door lock was broken, and the room was unlocked when I arrived, which made me nervous. The bathroom walls had peeling paint, there was no soap, and there was only one hand towel and one washcloth for two of us. They did bring what I needed, but it was still frustrating. The AC was noisy too. At breakfast the bananas were neon green and disgusting, and the water around the pool tiles was gross and brown. I don’t know why. The place felt run down and pretty sad. And thanks a lot, the alarm clock was apparently on a switch and got turned off at some point, so there was no alarm.

The rates are very reasonable, there are plenty of food options nearby, and the location right off Illinois 24 is perfect. The room was super clean. One time my coffee maker didn’t work, and they brought another in no time. On a different night, the office chair wasn’t working properly, and they replaced it right away. They also have a pool and hot tub, which is a nice bonus. 😎

Getting to and from Peoria wasn’t very convenient, though the savings made the drive worthwhile. The room, unfortunately, fell well short of what we expected. Dust covered the furniture, and there was garbage, including Swedish Fish, on the floor. In the bathroom, I saw what looked like blood on the walls in several spots. When I turned on the faucet, the handle came off. I laughed about it with my wife, put it back, and secured it with my pocket tool. The bottom of the vanity, where the ice bucket tray and disposable cups sit, looked like it hadn’t been dusted in months, and the bathroom door was missing its strike plate. The room got stuffy, and the window was unsecured and unlocked. My son and I went down for breakfast and there were no forks. I pointed this out to the kitchen worker, who was on her cell phone. She gave me a look that could only be called disgust, went out for the holder, and came back to refill it without saying anything, not even sorry or thanks for letting me know. The breakfast area had a fire pit that was oddly off despite the 0° weather. No one was at the front desk when we came in, including when we checked in, which didn’t make any of us feel safe. At checkout we left our cards on the desk because, again, nobody was there. Snow covered the sidewalks when we arrived and was still there when we left, so everyone had to walk through the poorly lit parking lot. Overall, a very poor experience. Despite the savings, we’ll avoid this hotel at all costs when we’re back in the area.

Sleep Inn is very nice and quiet. After we ran out of Super 8, they found us a room, and I’m so grateful to the lady who checked us in last night. She also suggested places to eat and made us feel very welcome. Stay here, and never, ever go to Super 8 in town. I hope others read this before skipping over Sleep Inn.
