American Inn & Suites Waterford

We needed an affordable place for two nights after problems at home, and had our kids and dogs with us. At $40 a night, you know what you're signing up for. I understand they sometimes help house homeless people during very cold weather, and that charities may use the hotel because it's cost-effective. Some things come with a price that low, but for us it was worth it. The pool is Olympic-sized and nicely heated, there's a sauna, and the rooms have jetted tubs that the kids loved. There's no breakfast, which is probably part of why it's so affordable. JAY at the front desk was kind enough to help me retrieve my child's life jacket from the pool even though it wasn't open yet. A swim and some time in the sauna made the room feel like a good deal. ❤️

The staff were friendly and accommodating. They let me use the pool after checkout and did their best to answer my questions. I got the sense they have a lot of work ahead of them to fix the place, but it was fine for a night, especially on a budget. The building needs serious renovations and a deep clean. Damaged furniture, peeling elevator paint, and eerie lighting give it a haunted-hotel feel. The large pool is in a separate building outside, and there's a sauna there too, though I didn't get a chance to try it. Some brighter lights and a bit of color would help the atmosphere. Keep at the work.

The customer service was polite and nice, no complaints about the staff. But the room was dirty, and there was nowhere to sit and eat food we'd ordered. The chair was so grimy I didn't want to use it, and it made me wonder about the bed too. Curtains and lamps had spots on them, and the place had a different funky smell every few feet. The website lists a fitness center, but there isn't one. After I edited my review, maintenance or management came knocking to identify my room. Once they figured it out, I heard them whisper, "Oh yea that's them, that's definitely them." If they wanted to ask whether I'd left a bad review, they could have done that more politely. I had to leave before they could "fix" everything.

There's plenty of parking at any hour, and the atmosphere is really nice. It's pet-friendly, with Wi-Fi, a pool, a sauna, hot tubs in the rooms, and a big banquet hall for events. The housekeeping team is trustworthy, and the maintenance staff are kind, professional, and courteous. Curtis is super helpful, and Amanda, James, Sarah, and Jalen are all amazing. The staff go above and beyond for guests.
