The food alone made me fond of this place, from fluffy omelettes and fresh Maine berries at breakfast to inventive sous vide octopus for dinner. It’s a beautiful, chic hotel and really comfortable, too. The staff were delightful, especially at the front desk and in the restaurant management. I hope I get lots of chances to come back.

The room was very clean, but the noise from next door came through so clearly that any sound seemed to be in our own room. The deadbolt was even more unsettling: housekeeping could still get in after I locked it, and I didn't feel safe. Those two issues were the main reasons for my negative review. The layout also has problems. I had to move furniture to reach the bedside outlet, the desk is under the TV so you can't watch while working, and the couch doesn't face it. The shower has little shelf space for your own shampoo and body wash. The ice machine doesn't make enough to fill a bucket, and the onsite restaurant doesn't offer room service.

I liked the look and feel of the Lockwood Hotel during my business trip supporting the Toyota dealership in Augusta. A colleague suggested it because the Hilton and Marriott options there aren't the best, and I enjoyed my stay enough that I'm actually returning for business this week. A couple of things could make the stay better. Casting from my phone or iPad didn't work, so I couldn't stream Netflix or YouTube TV. The only built-in apps were YouTube and two others I didn't recognize. Most hotels let you sign into Netflix, and a TV that pulls away from the wall would also make using an HDMI cord possible. I also wish the onsite restaurant had online ordering and could bring food to the room. When traveling alone, I don't always want to eat in the restaurant or talk to anyone just to order dinner. Parking across the street isn't ideal, but it's expected downtown. The bathroom sink drained slowly, which I mentioned to the front desk. That's an easy fix and wouldn't stop me from coming back.

After checking out, we walked around town hoping to find lunch, then wound up back at the Lockwood's restaurant, Front Main. Good call. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful gardens. The Street Taco's at the next table looked tempting, but we both went for "THE BURGER." We've had some great burgers, but this one was WOW. The flavor and the way they grilled the bun were amazing. I usually take pictures, but after the first bite I couldn't put it down, LOL. I'll get photos next time because we'll definitely be back. The theater is just steps away, with Italian, Greek, and tavern restaurants within walking distance. There's also a specialty foods shop across the street from the hotel.

The lobby's candlelit feel and the warmth of the fireplace were a vision. I spent a night at Lockwood hotel as a guest of Colby College while performing there, and the small touches made it feel like an upgraded home, from water bottles in the room to spa water in the lobby. The understated linens, lighting, and turn down service were much appreciated. The staff and the Front/Main restaurant employees were darling and lovely. I'll be back, and a restaurant review will come later!
