Red Roof Inn Gurnee - Waukegan

There were roaches in our room during the night, and we got very little sleep before our daughter's naval graduation. We did our best to deal with them at the time. The next day, staff offered us another room, which was a kind gesture, and that one had no pests. But the door didn’t fit its frame, and the safety latch was barely attached with one screw. The other screw was more than halfway out and could be turned by hand. The move came too late to fix the first impression. What we paid didn’t match the quality of the accommodations. I wasn’t expecting five star, but I also wasn’t expecting sub-par. I wish I’d taken photos instead of videos of the evidence, though my history of honest reviews should speak to my integrity.

The bathroom was truly nasty, with water around the tub and commode. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. They complained about my dogs even though they hadn’t done anything. They said I hadn’t picked up dog poop, but there was other dogs’ shit all over the place. I did pick up the messes I could find in the snow.

This was our first trip to Chicago, and the staff made us feel right at home. From booking through arrival, everyone was polite and helpful.

I found 3 (suspected) cockroaches in my room in one day. There was used shampoo but no conditioner or hand soap. One bed wasn’t made when I walked in. I used the hand towel, left, and when I came back later that day, it was folded like clean even though it was the same dirty towel. The parking lot could definitely use work too. The location was convenient, though, and the guy at the main desk knew what he was talking about.
