Super 8 Wausau

After a long day at Granite Peak, we got to a room that wasn’t the best, but figured it would do for one night. Then I woke up with a bug on the pillow right where my face had been. I showed the photo at the front desk, but was told they have people come in and check every so often and that he’d file a report. No refund, and they just brushed it off. I emailed them afterward and was told there was “no activity” in the room, even though I’d sent a clear picture. I felt disgusted and had to argue to try to get a refund. We’d booked a queen room but got a full. The area around the bathtub looked like it needed cleaning, and the hot tub was at 110, so we didn’t use it. I can let small things go, but waking up with a bug by my face is too much.

The room itself was fine, and I understand it wasn’t cleaned while we were out all day since many places only clean after more than two nights. But when we went in for the second night, my brother found panties on the desk that belonged to neither of us. We also spotted a toothbrush that wasn’t ours, while the bathroom towels had been replenished. We could only conclude that somebody used our room to shower and brush their teeth while we were out skiing.

Everything else was excellent, and the room was very clean, which I really appreciated. The strong smell in my room is why I’m giving it three stars.

The desk worker who checked us in was really friendly, the one with longer hair, though I can’t remember his name. Housekeeping also announced themselves early on checkout day. Did I need that extra half hour of sleep? Probably not. I was already wary about booking a Super 8, but Hotels.com had surprisingly good reviews. I don’t trust Hotels.com now. The room was comfortable, but the hotel wasn’t great. First, a front desk guy made us leave the hotel hot tub because we had drinks. Mine was just ice water in a plastic hotel cup. He politely said drinks weren’t allowed and asked us to leave. There was a dead roach, too, which may explain why the pool and hot tub were always empty. Breakfast was bad: microwave Jimmy Dean sandwiches, yogurt, and cereal. Not terrible, but not good either. They were out of coffee by 8:00, and started putting tables away 30 minutes before breakfast ended. Early check-in and late checkout cost extra, but who’d want either here? It wasn’t worth the $100.
