Holiday Inn Express & Suites Wauseon by IHG

The front desk clerks were friendly, but the rest of the stay went downhill. Renovations were underway, so maybe things will improve when that’s done. Our room entry floor and most of the bathroom were sticky and didn’t seem fully cleaned, more like someone had quickly wiped the surfaces. Then the fire alarm went off very early in the morning. There was no fire, but they couldn’t shut it off, so we left.

The room stayed cold even after I turned the heat on. Someone had left it switched off, and with it 19 degrees outside, it never warmed up. The bathroom door had an automatic closer, so heat from the room couldn’t get in; I ended up tying it open with the blow dryer bag cords. The location and price were good, but those careless issues spoiled what could have been a good stay.

It’s a clean, friendly place for a stop right off the highway, and the staff were welcoming. The first floor is still being renovated, but it didn’t affect our stay, and they’d done what they could to avoid inconveniencing guests. The rooms have been updated, though the setup felt a little thrown together. I also missed having a coffee maker in the room.

This Holiday Inn Express has been our home away from home when we come back to see friends and family nearby. The breakfast bar is still one of the best I’ve had, and the crew are professional, courteous, and friendly. On this visit I was pleasantly surprised by the updates and overhauls throughout the facility. The rooms have been completely redone and modernized, and the common areas updated too. If you haven’t stayed here in a couple of years, you may be pleasantly surprised when you return. Thanks, Holiday Inn Express in wauseon!
