The things I remember most are the quiet evenings, the clean warm beds, and how kind and straightforward the staff were. Our room had two beds that could easily fit four, plus a small kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and counter space. The bathroom did what it needed to, and I loved the morning sunshine through the window. The hot water was superb, even through three morning showers before we left. Nothing here is brand new, and there aren’t many frills, but everything worked well for our short stays and didn’t break the bank. The staff’s helpfulness and genuine warmth made a real difference. The most recent visit was last weekend as the weather turned colder, and we got a great rate. I’ve been here twice in three months while helping prepare and sell a family home, and I could trust The 40 Winks Inn to take care of my family each time. My family and I have lived in the St. Louis area for more than 30 years, but I spent nine formative years in Brookfield, Wisconsin, just a stone’s throw from The 40 Winks Inn. Restaurants, stores, and businesses have come and gone around it, while its hospitality and “it’s still here” tradition have stayed the same. Our home is in a wooded area, where we’re used to tree frogs, owls, and other nighttime sounds, but this city setting was absolutely silent on a Tuesday evening. I’m not sure when we’ll next be in Milwaukee, but I’ll remember the value, kindness, and special place The 40 Winks Inn has in my life. I didn’t know it as a child, but it feels like a warm piece of home in a place I made my home years ago. We’ll definitely return and tell people who need a safe, efficient, affordable place to stay about it.
