We’d booked through Motel 6, but when we arrived the clerk said they had bought the hotel about two days earlier. The room still looked like a run-down Motel 6. A piece was missing from the bathroom faucet, and the water pressure made it spray everywhere. We were only there a few hours to sleep, and I did appreciate that they allow pets.

I make the drive between California and Montana often and needed somewhere for the night, so I pulled off Highway 5 at this conveniently located motel. At first I wasn’t sure about it, but then I saw the Under New Management sign and decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did. The new owner is transforming the property, and it’s still a work in progress, but I think it’s worth a chance.

There were a huge number of mouse droppings on the tables in the morning, which is dangerous since they can spread hantavirus, a potentially deadly disease. When I told the staff, they didn’t seem very concerned.

The new management seems committed to making this a pleasant place to stay. It was cleaned really well, and they’d even left toothbrushes and other extra toiletries, a nice touch for a budget motel. Quite nice for the price.

The staff were wonderful, and the rooms now have air conditioners, which the former Motel 6 didn’t have. It was recently bought and turned into Shasta Vista Inn, and they’ve made a lot of upgrades. The place is really nice, close to things around Weed and to attractions like waterfalls and local museums.
