Residence Inn by Marriott Weehawken

Tamera welcomed us as soon as we arrived. She was professional and knew how to get around, and even helped us plan our itinerary based on where the attractions we wanted to visit were. The hotel’s location is great: the ferry is across the street, there’s easy bus access, and other restaurants are within walking distance. The Highwood restaurant is around the corner, with amazing service and food. Our room was clean and roomy enough for us, and the partial view of New York City was awesome. The hotel breakfast definitely exceeded our expectations. Checkout was easy, and Karla quickly sorted out the minor hiccups we had. These two young women are a dynamic duo, and The Residence Inn by Marriott is lucky to have them.

The room and nearby area were fine. Self-service laundry was handy, but there were no laundry supplies for sale, so I had to Uber detergent, which was inconvenient. Parking was another downside since they charge each time you leave.

We just got back from visiting from Kentucky. We wanted to see NYC but chose to stay on the Jersey side. The port is right nearby, which was convenient and cheap, at $10 each way, and there are free buses into the city. The rooms were clean, the location was great, and all the receptionists were helpful. I didn’t get everyone’s name, but Chris was especially nice. One person working during breakfast was somewhat rude to us. Maybe they were having a bad day or didn’t mean anything by it, but it made us uncomfortable. I still wouldn’t let that stop me from coming back, and if I’m in the area again, I’d consider staying here.

The staff, cooks, and housekeeping were all really nice and accommodating. Breakfast was very good, especially the Egg McMuffins and the nuts with chocolate that I added to my oatmeal each morning. The omelets could use some work. I’d have ordered them regularly, but wasn’t sure the cheese was real. An omelet station with real cheese and toppings would be great. Our clean room looked good, and I liked having a fridge and kitchenette so we could make our own meals. The location near the Weehawken Ferry is hard to beat for getting into Midtown Manhattan. WNY is nearby too, and Hoboken and Jersey City aren’t far. Still, two issues took away from the stay. My party had paid in advance, and I used my credit card only for incidentals, but I was charged the full amount. Also, the mattresses and pull-out beds were far too thin for a hotel this nice and expensive. A good night’s sleep matters most, so they should all be upgraded. The pillows were meant to be soft and thin, but ours were thick and plump instead.
