Copper Swan

We rented here for a week with a large group. The rooms had plenty of space, the staff were wonderful, and the food was yummy. The location was great, with marsh views, Wellfleet and several trails within walking distance. It was also a nice 10 minute walk to a level 2 vehicle charger.

A lovely historic compound with gorgeous woodwork and modern amenities that have been updated well. The saltmarsh and island views are gorgeous. The owner was pleasant and interesting to talk with, and the catering was very good. I’d stay again.

The photos on the website don’t match the place I found. I stayed in the carriage house with friends, and all of our rooms were dirty when we arrived. It looked like they’d only changed the sheets. The plumbing was old, the WiFi was bad, and the staff were rude and unprofessional. During our four-day stay, the room was never cleaned once. I can’t even describe how dirty the floor was. This was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. It feels like a scam, so don’t spend your money here.

The bed was extremely comfortable, and we slept well. Our room had charm, and the marsh view was pretty even without the advertised sunset. It was also an easy 20 minute drive to Ptown. I’d have rated the stay around 3 to 3.5 stars if the room hadn’t been left unlocked with all our things inside, followed by no response when we asked for help. We booked the "Captain's Room" expecting the online photo and description, but the furnishings had changed since that single photo was taken. The room faced mostly south, looking onto Main Street with a broad stretch of marsh beyond, so the promised “amazing views of beautiful sunsets” felt overstated. The advertised "claw foot tub" was much smaller than a normal bathtub and frankly gross. Whenever the toilet flushed or sink ran, dirty water gurgled up into it, so we didn’t want to stand in it to shower. The mini-fridge also failed to keep food or drinks cold. Our already-cold water bottles had warmed overnight, despite the door seeming to seal well. We found hair between the bedsheets, and the tissue box held one tissue with no replacement nearby. After the first night, we asked for the room to be made up, mostly because we needed tissues. We were out all day, and came back to an unlocked room. Staff had been in, but the empty tissue box was still there. They’d taken our open, partly used bar of soap without replacing it, leaving no hand soap, and removed the bathmat without leaving another. At about 8:30pm we called the service number to ask for a bathmat and report that the room had been left unlocked with our belongings inside. No one got back to us, and no bathmat arrived. We skipped showering the next morning and hit the road. The included continental breakfast was supposed to be next door at Brekkie's, according to a handwritten note folded around our key on the unattended front desk. On our first morning, Brekkie's offered Copper Swan guests a limited free menu of basics such as pancakes or eggs and bacon. The food and service were average at best. We tried again the next morning because breakfast was included, but waitstaff ignored us at our table for more than ten minutes, so we gave up and went to PJ's down the road for brunch instead. (We highly recommend PJ's if you’re nearby. The menu is extensive, but all you really need is their signature lobster roll and some ice cream.)
