When our truck broke down on a cross-country trip, the people in Wellington helped us get through a pretty frightening day. After the engine threw a rod, we were stuck beside the highway. The Kansas Turnpike Authority sent a wrecker within 30 minutes, and it took us to Countryside Motors. Baymont by Wyndham was close enough to walk to, and it became a safe place for my family while we figured out how to get home. The hotel staff brought some calm to a stressful situation. The folks at Countryside Motors, Baymont/Travel lodge, and Penny’s Diner all treated us with real kindness. The mechanics diagnosed my truck, and the people at the diner and hotel helped us feel looked after. We eventually made it home safely, and now that we can catch our breath, I’m grateful to everyone who helped us, especially the Baymont front desk staff, cooks, waiters, and the people at Penny’s Diner. We were strangers, but they treated us like family.

The room was clean, the location was convenient, and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. I hadn’t planned to stay here for fun: my vehicle had been towed into town and I was waiting for some busted hoses to be replaced. Given the circumstances, they made it a good stay.

Whenever I need something, the staff are ready to help. It’s a comfortable place to relax at any time of day, in a good location, and the rooms are clean and fresh. Thanks to the staff.

We were in town for a funeral and chose this place so we wouldn’t have to drive to Wichita. There aren’t many options in Wellington, which was part of why we stayed. The TV remote didn’t work, the refrigerator wasn’t cold and had a broken temperature knob, and the shower wasn’t clean.

The room was clean, and the hard bed didn’t bother me, though my wife found it very uncomfortable. Still, for what you pay, I expected soap and shampoo. There was only one tiny bar by the bathroom sink, and no coffee maker in the room. Nobody was at the front desk when we arrived, so check-in took a couple of minutes. When we left, the desk was empty again and we just left the key there. I wouldn’t stay again. If you’re traveling this part of the Kansas Turnpike, the Kansas Star Hotel and casino costs a few dollars more and has much nicer rooms.
