AmericInn by Wyndham West Burlington

We picked this hotel because of the price, location, and pet policy after a fire left my family without a home. The stay was horrible. There was mold in the rooms, used condoms in the hallway, and people having sex in the pool while my children were in it. Half the lights and outlets in our room didn't work. We had listed our dog on the paperwork three times and told the front desk, but on the second-to-last night they called to say we'd been seen with a dog and had to pay an extra fee. Most of the staff weren't friendly. The night desk worker, who I saw two of our seven days, and the housekeeper who was there every day were the only friendly people I met. I'd rather have stayed in my car than here, and recommend spending the same amount somewhere else.

Housekeeping was hit or miss: I found hair in the tub, and the room and bed were refreshed differently from one day to the next. The shared areas could also use more attention during busy breakfast hours. Breakfast itself was handy, and the room was comfortable enough. Check-in went smoothly, and the front desk was friendly and helpful. The location was easy to get to. More consistent cleaning and care with the details would make this a much better choice.

We'd have left if the other hotels hadn't been sold out. The place felt old, dirty, and musty, and it seemed like corporate didn't care about the building, leaving the staff with little to work with. We chose it because we like the Mt Pleasant location, but I wouldn't recommend it. At least I didn't get any bug bites, and the night attendant was very helpful.

The room was fairly clean and comfortable, and the pool was maintained well, though it was only lukewarm and I wished it were warmer. The freeway was easy to reach, the location was central, and both the rates and breakfast were decent. Housekeeping was the problem. We asked the woman with red braids to collect the towels and change the bedding while we were out, but she didn't. The bathroom conditioner was nearly empty, and its wall holder had hair and a pubic hair stuck to it. The rooms could use an update too. The jacuzzi was boarded over and closed, which was a shame after a six-hour drive. Still, the AmericInn in burlington is a decent place to stay for a little while.
