Extended Stay America Select Suites - Des Moines - West Des Moines

I’ve stayed here several times while working nearby and would recommend it. The staff have been friendly and helpful every time I’ve interacted with them. For the price, the hotel is well maintained and quite clean. It’s not a four-star hotel, of course, but it’s been a good option for me.

The full kitchen was useful, though there weren’t any utensils, and we brought our own. The room was clean and the price was great. We could walk to Target and Hy-Vee, with a Walgreens at the end of the block. The lot felt safe and was well lit, and the neighbors were quiet by 10. I’d stay again if I’m in the area.

They won’t work with you unless you pay for the whole week up front. I understand the consumer’s side of that, but the weekly rate online is often higher than the discounted rate they could offer. The general manager is very stone cold and doesn’t seem willing to work with anyone. It’s daily or weekly, no flexibility.

It was a mess. I booked through booking.com, which is what I always use, but they had my reservation twice and charged me a lot more. I asked for my money back and said I wasn’t going to go ahead with it. The lady was nice and tried to fix the problem, though I don’t know where it came from. It seems more like a place for people who live there than for someone staying a couple of nights. I only chose it because it was more reasonable, but I can’t say I’d do it again.
