The hotel’s location is great and it’s fairly new, though it seems there was a period when it wasn’t maintained as well as it should have been. Management says they’re trying to get it back to where it should be. When I called, the GM/Manager addressed the concerns, as did the front desk person for one issue. The other issue wasn’t known at the time, so it couldn’t be addressed then. I’d call it 3.5 stars. In room 408, the heater kept running far past the set temperature. It got above 75 even though it was set to 64, so we eventually turned it off. They said maintenance would handle it and they were working on connecting the units to wall thermostats. Check that the heat starts and stops at the right temperature before 2 a.m. There were also stains on a mattress pad. I don’t know why, but this seems common across hotel brands now. The GM/Manager said she’d talk to housekeeping and they planned to order new units and rotate them in because some couldn’t be fully cleaned. We live an hour away and booked this to get extra sleep before an early wake-up. With those problems, we probably got less sleep than if we’d just driven, so lesson learned. Next time we’ll treat it like going to DSM airport and just make the drive. Should you stay? Sure, but check that everything works before 2 a.m. and be honest about what you find. Nick

After a long day of travel, the comfortable beds, well laid out room, and perfect hot water for a soak in the tub made this a genuinely restful stay. It was the best hotel visit I’ve had in a while. Stephanie was especially kind and accommodating, which made it even better.

The daylight coming through the windows was so strong, with no room-darkening curtains, that my baby couldn’t nap. I was so disappointed. With a six-month-old, things are hard enough already, and this made it much worse. I wished I’d had the money to switch hotels, but instead I literally drove around in my car for hours during the day because the room was so bright.

I stayed at this Holiday Inn Express Oct 7-8, and it was one of the best I’ve visited. The rooms were beautifully clean and appointed, with a super comfortable mattress. Check-in service was wonderful, and Angela kept the excellent hot breakfast coming while making sure the dining area stayed clean. I’ll definitely be back!

The room was great, and the woman at the front desk was friendly, but breakfast was a letdown. We had to peel plastic covers off juice cups, apparently because they’d run out of regular cups. The gravy ran out, and instead of making more, the cook served potatoes. Butter, hard-boiled eggs, and milk were all missing and had to be requested. The bins were overflowing, and the counters and tables were dirty. The breakfast attendant shouldn’t be on his phone during breakfast hours, and needs to improve or be replaced. I heard this cook was new, so hopefully he’ll learn. Later, I saw that this place has had bad breakfast reviews for years.
