West Hartford Inn

The location is very central, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was a comfortable, nice size. The only things that let it down were chipped paint in the bathroom and no breakfast. Everything else was excellent. I heard a rumor during my stay that it might close soon, but I'd definitely stay there again if it's still around next time.

Check-in was easy, and the front office staff were courteous. The room was tidy and very clean, and the staff were really helpful. I'd missed my flight that evening and only needed a room for the night. By the time I arrived, I was exhausted and dreaded more hassles on top of the missed flight. I asked, already tired and irritated, whether there was room service. There wasn't, but the front desk offered to order food for me if I wanted something. That was one of the nicest gestures I've seen from a hotel in a long time. I had a great experience and would definitely recommend staying here. It was totally worth it.

The hotel was clean, comfortable, and convenient, but our check-in was a terrible experience because of the man at the front desk, who said he was the manager. My mother had booked online and listed me as the guest, since she wasn't staying. When we got there, things were fine until he asked for a card to keep on file for possible damage. The card was my mother's, the person who made the booking. He refused it because neither my husband nor I was the cardholder. Since we'd booked through a third party, we lost $140 that night. I repeatedly asked to see the hotel's policy handbook saying the card had to match the ID on file. He just kept saying that was the policy, whether I liked it or not, and that he couldn't let us stay in the room we'd booked. I showed him a photo of my ID on my phone because I don't have a physical one right now, and it showed that my last name matched the cardholder's. My mother was on the phone and willing to email a photo of her ID. She even offered to video call so he could verify she was allowing us to use her card. None of that was enough for him. He was extremely rude and judgmental throughout.

The owner, or at least the man I believe was the owner, was friendly and charming. The small staff made us feel like family, not just guests. For a small local hotel, it has the amenities you'd expect, plus one extra satisfaction. There isn't a continental breakfast or an indoor pool like many hotels have, but you do get a good night's rest and a hot shower in a friendly atmosphere.
