TownePlace Suites by Marriott West Lafayette

The room itself was unremarkable, but the service was exceptional. We arrived pretty early for a quick rest before attending Purdue graduation, and the clerk got us a clean room within the hour. He said he usually oversees housekeeping and was helping at the desk. He was fantastic, and my husband enjoyed chatting with him while he found us a room. I wish I’d gotten his name.

The breakfast was very nice, with a good variety, and everything was clean. But when we arrived, nobody was at the front desk. I’d requested a handicap room and was told it still needed cleaning, then waited two hours for it to be ready. I was surprised it was on the fourth floor. There’s a sign by the elevator saying to use the stairwells in a fire because the elevator won’t work. How is someone who’s handicapped supposed to manage those stairs? I guess they’re meant to roll and hope for the best. The door slams, so maybe it needs a soft closer. The toilet should be ADA compliant, and the soap and shampoo dispenser is in a really awkward spot.

The suite looked great at first, but the inside of the bathroom door was dirty and the floors stuck to my shoes. At 7 am, the lobby bathroom had no toilet paper and every garbage can was full. You’d think those things would be cleaned and freshened up at the start of each day.

The rooms felt brand new, and I wondered if we might be the first people to stay in ours. We were on the third floor. The bedroom and bathroom were both spacious, the beds comfortable, and the shower was nice with strong water pressure. There wasn’t a bathtub. A small kitchen had everything you’d need, and I wish we’d stayed longer so I could try it out. Breakfast was complimentary, with a different menu each of the two days we were there and a variety of options. The staff were very friendly and polite, and I’m sure we’ll come back. We were visiting Purdue University and found this hotel after nearby and campus options seemed ridiculously expensive. I searched Google Maps and came across it before it had any reviews. The website didn’t have photos or anything, so I guessed it might be new and decided to try it. It’s a bit off Northwestern Avenue, with several stores nearby, including Panera Bread and Walmart. The area looked newly developed, with small trees. When we walked in, I could smell that fresh new-building scent, and a very sweet receptionist told us the hotel had just opened two weeks earlier.
