Hilton Garden Inn Westbury

At the continental breakfast, a woman stood over us and kept trying to sell us the hot breakfast. She then ordered it for us at the same window where we could have placed the order ourselves, brought it over, and included a tip bill even though the meal was charged to the room. It felt very much like a motel, and not like a good look for Hilton. It also seemed like a way for Hilton to keep wages low.

Chelsea at the front desk was really nice and helpful. The hotel was a good value, and the hallways and rooms seemed to have fresh carpet and a new smell. The lobby and elevators were a bit dirty, though.

The bed was comfortable enough for the five days I was here on a work trip, but I left wishing the bathroom had actually been renovated. I won't stay again until that happens. I picked this Hilton because I'd visited a few on Long Island and many needed updates. The online listing said the rooms had been renovated, so I booked without hesitation. I arrived late and got one of the renovated rooms on the first floor. It wasn't my usual choice, but I was fine with it since it was the only renovated room available. The front desk staff member was pleasant, recognized my Diamond status, and gave me two waters. On the way over, I noticed new carpet and trailers outside while renovation work was still going on. Inside, there was new carpet and some new furniture, but the desk and cabinets were badly worn, with chunks missing from the faux wood. The bathroom hadn't been updated: it had what seemed to be the same sink and toilet, plus a tub with peeling paint and rusty hardware. When I asked the front desk about it, I was told those parts hadn't been remodeled. It seems they'd replaced the carpet, bed, and some furniture, but not the bathroom.

Once you get past the lobby, the place is atrocious. The hallways and elevator smelled awful, and there was trash, wrappers, dirt, and dust all over the floors. The room felt like a motel, with a popcorn ceiling, an old TV that had about five channels, and terrible upkeep. The sofa was stained beyond saving, and the room was in an unacceptable condition when I got it. I couldn't take it any longer, so I left at midnight and paid for another room across the street at the Courtyard. After a certain hour there's nobody at the front desk to complain to, and you're supposed to leave your key in a box. This doesn't meet Hilton standards. There are much better options nearby, and this place feels like a scam. I stay in hotels four or five nights a month, and I'm both a Hilton Gold and Marriott Bonvoy elite member. When I contacted Expedia to ask for partial compensation, they said the hotel had rejected the request.
