Old Towne Motel

I decided to check in despite seeing some bad reviews, but first I looked over two rooms. Both smelled terribly musty. In the first bathroom, I could see black mold above the shower. In the other room, I lifted the mattress and found a disgusting stain in the middle of the box spring, with patches of mold covering the underside of the mattress. The place also seemed poorly maintained overall. I wouldn't recommend staying here, given the risk of getting sick from mold. It's a shame, because this part of Wisconsin is so pleasant and beautiful. Maybe it would be better under local heritage American's ownership.

The sheets were filthy when we arrived, so I asked the staff member to change them. She refused, saying she wouldn't do it until we left and giving some lame COVID excuse. I got clean sheets and changed them myself, leaving the dirty ones in a dresser drawer. After we checked out, she accused me of taking the sheets and threatened to charge my card $100.00 unless we returned them "today." I felt like she was calling me a thief. I got in around 12:30 am after a long drive, and the gentleman at check-in understood I was tired. He got me into my room quickly. It was clean and fresh. He also tried to help me get ice, then apologized when we found the machine wasn't working.

At first I had that silly "Motel" stigma in mind, but for a small town motel this place is actually quite quaint. The room was clean, with a comfortable bed, mini fridge, microwave, and a shower seat in the bathroom. The price was fair, and customer service was great, especially when I checked in at 11:00pm. I slept pretty late, so I didn't try the breakfast. Did I mention the beds were comfortable? Very.
