Sun Retreats Old Orchard Beach

The splash pad was amazing and refreshing in the heat, and the kids loved it. The big trampoline they called a “pillow” was fun for adults too. A trolley picks you up right at the gate and goes to Old Orchard for shopping, restaurants, and more. We could also bike to Ocean Park for ice cream or the beach. We had a great time during our four-night stay.

The campsites were cramped and looked nothing like the pictures online, which was a disappointing start to what I hoped would be a family-friendly stay. The pool and hot tub were restricted to people 21 and over, with no valid reason given for the rule. They didn't serve alcohol either, and the restriction made my family feel left out. At over $100 a night, I wouldn't recommend this place, and I won't be coming back.

The pool and water play area were really nice when open, and the trolley to the beach was great, though it isn’t run by the campground. But the pool closed at 6:30pm, and we couldn't reach anyone to ask them to reopen it because no one answered the phone. The kids were very disappointed. We traveled for more than three weeks through several states, and this was the worst campground we stayed at. It was expensive, the staff were unfriendly, and the tiny sites offered no privacy. Staff gave us wrong information about the trolley schedule, so we had to wait a long time. We barely slept because noisy neighbors had more than 10 people on their site, with plenty of alcohol and loud music. The site manager still hasn't answered our calls.

The cabins were very nice, and we loved the screened porch. But we had to refill the grill propane ourselves, and that ate up most of our first full day because the store didn't have keys to the propane cage. The cable was also out for most of the stay. The kids were disappointed that the arcade didn't have much to offer. It didn’t feel like a very family-oriented campground, with no activities for kids. After spending over $500, we left a day early and probably won’t return.
