Hampton Inn Pittsburgh/ Wexford-Sewickley

We had to stay in Pittsburgh longer than planned because of the blizzard, severe weather, and a wreck. The staff were patient, friendly, and accommodating through it all. There seemed to be a lot of children staying there, and while I love kids, they can get loud when excited. Still, the Hampton Inn did a great job assigning guests. I only realized how many people were there when I went downstairs. It’s about 12-15 minutes from the stadium and downtown. I’d stay again, easily 10 stars if I could.

We picked this location outside Pittsburgh because it was easy to reach the hospital, and I usually choose a Hampton Inn when I travel because I have rewards. Beforehand, I told the front desk we needed a quiet room so we could sleep before leaving for the hospital at 5:30 AM. They said low occupancy meant that wouldn’t be a problem. But a loud group was put right next to us and kept partying until 2 or 3 AM. In the morning, the desk attendant brushed off our complaint and said we should know the policy and police their hotel. The manager later returned my call and repeated the employee’s “policy.” I never got their handbook and I don’t work there. So much for the promised quiet room. Worst Hampton Inn.

It had been a while since I’d had such a good hotel stay. The staff were especially friendly, smiling, greeting me often, and being consistently polite. It was a refreshing experience.

We had plenty of clean towels and soap, the blankets were clean, and the water got hot, which was great. The AC kept the room at a good temperature, though I would’ve been fine with it colder. The bed was incredibly stiff, and the pillows went flat as soon as I put my head down. For what we paid, I expected better and got less than I’d hoped. Bring your own pillow, and for more than one night, maybe a memory foam pad. Also, there’s only one entrance to the parking lot, so if you’re coming from the opposite direction, you’ll have to pull into the gas station and loop around.
