Best Western Plus White Bear Country Inn

We liked it enough to plan another stay, even though you can hear hallway noise through the thin door so clearly it sounds like your door is open, lol. The rooms are small, but the price reflects that. They were clean and looked after, and the beds were super comfortable. Hotel staff were friendly and attentive, and Rudys was amazing as always. I’m pretty picky about hotels, so that says a lot for us.

The only snag was dinner. We went to the attached restaurant at 5pm and found out the first available table was at 8:30. I hadn’t thought to reserve, though I should have since it was Saturday night. We booked because the pool area looked so lovely in the photos, and it really was. The hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms were completely clean, and the bathrooms felt very modern. The pool is saltwater, which doesn’t burn my eyes like chlorine, though it leaves a salty, ocean-like taste on my lips. That wasn’t a problem for me. The hot tub had chlorine, thankfully, and I think having the pool in the breakfast area also helps cut down the chlorine smell. Everyone we met was incredibly pleasant, from the front desk and housekeepers to the person who answered the phone in the middle of the night. After breakfast was over, the woman cleaning up even let my daughter have extra juice. The coffee machine and tea options were great and available all day and night. It was a fantastic Saturday night stay for $130.

The staff were very kind, but we were disappointed with how the night went. We booked the King Suite for our wedding celebration partly because we wanted to use the pool, but a private party had it closed off. The party was also loud at 11pm, with people drinking near the side of the building where our window was, so we barely slept. We still had a week of our honeymoon left, but went home after just one night. It was a letdown.

For the past eight years, my wife and I have stayed here every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Bill makes a point of appreciating every guest, and the staff have always been polite and accommodating. Rudy’s Redeye bar and grill is a great perk of staying here. Mike and Sara from Montgomery.
