The grounds are tidy, parking is plentiful, and it’s easy to find from La Hwy One with clear signage at the entrance. The dining hall is roomy and nicely decorated, with lots of seating for bigger groups. Staff were attentive, and the food was tasty with generous portions. The facility was very clean, too. They’re only open on limited days for lunch and dinner, so I’m planning to come back with a group for Sunday Brunch. Overnight stays are available, along with a swimming pool, and they can host events of different sizes, including weddings.

The owners put a lot of work into a free Easter beignets with the bunny event for children, and it was really lovely. I’ve visited several times since the new owner took over, and both the restaurant staff are very friendly. I’m looking forward to seeing what other fun events they come up with.

The service and everything else was great, so I’m giving it 4 stars. But staying in one of the mansion’s original family rooms a few years ago was frightening. I’m not religious or superstitious at all, yet something about the room felt wrong. It looked like it hadn’t changed since the original occupants, right down to the same bed.

This place should be a memorial, not a resort presenting itself as a family home. The building stands on land where more than 150 people were enslaved, and that awful history needs to be acknowledged. I’ve seen other reviewers say the guides discuss the family who enslaved the people who built it, but leave out the people who were abused or lost their lives. That’s disgusting. I can’t understand how people choose this place for weddings or vacations, given its racism, cruelty, and blatant ignorance.

We went down to the basement and met a Great Grandma of the family. She was delightful and definitely talked about being a Southern Bell. During our tour of the Plantation, they also pointed out that the building has 365 windows, one for each day of the year.
