The room cleanliness and billing were the biggest problems for us. There was white residue on the bed frame and what looked like dried mucus on the wall, and staff came into our room while we were out without asking or letting us know. I was also charged over $530 for a reservation that should have been about $230. Management seemed dismissive and rude when I tried to sort it out. Tyler was the one good part. He was helpful, handled our concerns well, and gave us great service throughout the stay. Some other staff were often outside in the parking lot on their phones. Once, I had to go outside to get help because nobody was in the lobby, and the only employee I found was smoking. Our first impression was uncomfortable too. An employee smoking in the lot started telling us about drug use, locals doing bad things to animals, and other disturbing behavior in the area, even though we had our dog with us. That felt unprofessional. Breakfast was also far below what we've had at other Best Western hotels. As Gold Members, we've stayed at many while traveling for sports, and this was among the worst. Between the room, the service, the unannounced entry, and the duplicate charge, I wouldn't come back or recommend this place to people going to the sports complex. Tyler's professionalism was the only bright spot.
I was bitten three times, so I looked more closely at the room. There was thick grime on top of the outlet covers, debris and dead bugs in the drawers, debris on the carpet, and a heating and cooling unit that looked long overdue for cleaning. I also saw red-brown marks on the door trim, mold or dirt around the faucet, a slow sink drain with what looked like thick black mold in it, and debris and small dots behind and under the bed, along with rips and substances I couldn't identify. I have a photo of the Q-tips I used on the faucet. I know rooms get a lot of traffic and don't expect perfection, and I'm sure they try. Others in my group had clean rooms. After the bites, I asked quietly and politely for another room, making sure no one else was around. The front desk girl said there were none, so I planned to put up with it because I had my nephew's graduation party at noon. Then the desk called and said I was being removed from the room because I'd mentioned being bitten. I asked to leave after the party, but they said I had to go immediately and wouldn't refund me. It was 10:00, I wasn't ready, and they wouldn't even let me go across the street to buy crates. Someone from my group got them for me. I packed in a rush, separated my essentials, and worried something might have contaminated my belongings. I was sweaty and unprepared for the graduation. It was a holiday weekend, with prices doubled and few rooms available. I spent the next three or four hours searching because my husband and daughter were arriving that day. I missed the party, was stressed, and wasn't dressed to socialize. With no refund and higher prices, finding a place was hard. I booked a room for $89, but worried I might infect someone if I was infected, so I slept in the car. I'm out more than $600 and still trying to reach someone about it. I booked online after seeing that everyone else in my group had done that. When I asked Best Western for a refund, they said third-party booking sites were responsible and it wasn't the hotel's problem. I haven't managed to reach the booking site either. The recording says calls are busy and asks people to leave a message; I've left several and received no call back. If you book online, know that the hotel says it won't handle refunds. The room was unclean when I arrived, though I clean before touching anything anyway. I brought my own towels, blanket, and pillow because of allergies, and came back late after being out for a few hours. I took photos, but many didn't come out well or don't show clearly what they are. I didn't plan to post a bad review and wouldn't have if this had been resolved. I'm posting because I'm having trouble getting money back for nights I didn't stay. One odd thing: while searching for another place, the same motel appeared to have one room available. I wonder if it was room 413. The room was cleaner when I left than when I arrived.
The quiet grounds were a real plus. The hotel sits a little way off the interstate, but it's still close, and we didn't hear freeway noise. There are good dinner choices nearby, including a sushi place just a couple of minutes away by car. We found our room clean, with comfortable beds and hygienic-feeling hard floors. The bathroom was roomy and had a large counter. Its exhaust fan was a bit loud, but we were glad it was there, since some hotels don't have one and that can make a family stay in one room less comfortable. The pool and hot tub were a good size, with clear water at comfortable temperatures and no strong chlorine smell. The kids loved them, and there were adequately sized pool towels. At breakfast, the food choices were mostly standard, but staff kept everything stocked and the dining area clean even during the busy period. Check-in staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, made customer service a priority, and worked with us through an unexpected issue. The hotel seemed well managed. We didn't get to use them, but the deluxe queen rooms with two queen beds and a pull-out sofa look well suited to bigger families or those with teenagers. For the room rates and amenities, it felt like a good value, especially for families.
Brittany, the manager, made my stay feel amazing. She was kind, professional, and clearly cares about making guests feel welcome and looked after. She went above and beyond to make sure things were right, and you could tell she takes pride in her work. I'll definitely be back. Best Western is lucky to have her. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality!
The kid at the desk was nice, at least. The rooms felt dreary and the beds were terrible. There are several spots where vending machines are supposed to be, but there weren't any, and the ice from the machine tasted bad. While I was in the hot tub, which was only kinda warm, I had a couple of kids climbing all over and around me the whole time. Breakfast left a bad taste too, both figuratively and literally: fake eggs and FoxNews propaganda. The place feels like a sinking ship, poor desk kid.
