Whitehall Cottages

We left and went to Comfort Inn instead, which was much nicer. The room didn’t look anything like the pictures or the description. It wasn’t a cottage, just a run-down motel, with trash overflowing outside the doors. The room smelled musty and wasn’t very clean, and there was no staff on site. I tried calling to ask about larger rooms but never heard back. Save your money and don’t stay here.

The room was cold when I arrived, and the toilet was already clogged. I tried calling emergency facilities the next morning, but nobody responded, so I bought a plunger and fixed it myself. After my stay, my calls and email also went unanswered, with no follow-up. The rooms are small, the amenities very basic, and the customer service was poor.

The location is convenient, but getting out of the tiny parking lot was a problem. We were blocked in, and it really can’t fit oversized vehicles. Inside, the shower was so cramped I couldn’t comfortably get in or out, so I wasn’t able to shower. The floors slanted quite a bit, and the bed felt unstable and moved a lot. It also needed a deep clean: underneath the bed was very dirty, and there were a few stains on the bathroom wall. I know it’s a two star motel, but it was lacking in several basic ways.

I’ve stayed at Whitehall Cottages three times, once in the large family room and twice in a small dual bed room, the flower room. The large room was spacious enough to feel like a family apartment, and it was clean, homey, and nicely decorated. It worked really well for my family and kids. The smaller room was quaint, and the beds were comfortable, though I wouldn’t recommend it for a larger person. It’s a 2 star MOTEL, and some reviewers seem not to understand what that means. For the price, it’s a great value, in an excellent spot right in Whitehall downtown. Restaurants and bars are good and within walking distance.
