Quality Inn near Speedway

We had a few issues in an older room, though it was still decent. The furniture was old, and the large glass window had the a/c unit underneath it. The door was bent, with a gap below, and the smoke detector was covered for some reason. A group kept talking by their cars a couple of rooms away until 11 pm. Breakfast was basic: waffles, a prepackaged breakfast sandwich, yogurt, cold cereal, milk, apples, juice, coffee, and tea.

The staff were nice, and I enjoyed my stay. It’s only a couple of minutes from The Blueridge Parkway, Boone, Blowing Rock, and West Jefferson. Being right by the highway does mean it can get a bit loud at times.

My room was at the back, smelled bad, and wasn’t very nice. Breakfast isn’t what it used to be. Both the coffee maker and juice machine were apparently broken, and it felt like they didn’t want to clean them. The same trash was still in the same spots the next morning, so the breakfast area hadn’t been cleaned. I used to love this place when I visited, but I won’t be back.

I couldn’t check in, so I can’t really review a stay. The front desk guy was passed out. I tried waking him several times; when he roused a little, he seemed to understand I was checking in, but was still half asleep and hard to understand. He tried using his car keys as a computer mouse, then passed out again. I agree with the review saying whoever works the front desk doesn’t care about the job. I left and got a refund later.
