Historic Grand Canyon Hotel

The staff were warm and kind, and happy to share local recommendations. It felt personal and sincere, like they cared about our experience. After a day out, returning to the hotel felt like coming back to a quiet sanctuary. The building has so much character, and you can feel its history as soon as you walk in. Details seem carefully preserved while still giving you modern comforts. My room was spotless, cozy, and inviting, the kind of place where you want to kick off your shoes and stay awhile. Williams adds to the charm. From the hotel it’s easy to stroll Route 66, browse shops, find great food, and enjoy the peaceful mountain-town atmosphere. The weekend was exactly what I needed, relaxing, restorative, and memorable. The Historic Grand Canyon Hotel made for a special, timeless, calming getaway in Williams, AZ. From the moment I arrived, the pace slowed and my stress melted away. It’s a lovely mix of historic charm, comfort, and heartfelt hospitality.

The Historic Grand Canyon Hotel is right in the heart of downtown, and that historic main street was a wonderful surprise. There’s unique shopping, walkable restaurants, and it’s a great base between the Grand Canyon, about an hour north, and Sedona, an hour south. Williams has plenty of (sos) motels, but I’d do myself the favor of staying in this distinctive building that’s lived through so much and is telling a new story. The relatively new owners are making big efforts to give this piece of history a contemporary, young feel while holding onto the charm of a hotel that welcomed people arriving on horseback and carriages 130 years ago. It brought back the feeling of a Bed and Breakfast from the pre-AirBnB era. The small but well-appointed room was upstairs, and the lobby and front desk felt inviting. The staff were warm and welcoming.

The staff went above and beyond to make the stay lovely for my husband and our four little kids, 5yo, 4yo, 2yo, and baby. We’d booked the large loft, but the travel crib wouldn’t fit, so Brittany moved us to the Grand Family Suite at no extra charge. The crib was already set up when we arrived, and two baskets of toys were waiting for the kids. Beds were very comfortable, and the crisp, clean sheets weren’t microfiber or 100% polyester. The bathroom was clean, and the vintage decor was beautiful. It’s an old hotel, so the floors creak, soundproofing is limited, and paint is peeling in places. I think that adds to the charm. There are earplugs on every nightstand, and we also brought a noise machine to help the kids sleep. Breakfast was small, with yogurt, cereal, boiled eggs, pastries, oatmeal, fruit, coffee, and juice, but there was enough variety to feed all of us. I wish we’d stayed more than one night so we could enjoy the library and evening drinks, but I’m sure we’ll come back. Blessings to the family who owns this hotel. This is a hidden gem of AZ, both for its historic rooms and the wonderful staff.

The carriage house room 3 was my favorite, with a Jacuzzi tub, fire place, writing desk, and king bed. I had to stay two days because of a snow storm, and next time I come through I’m going to stay a week. I think this is my favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and I’ve stayed in a lot. I’d give them 10 stars if I could. The atmosphere, decore, and friendly staff completely delighted me. They’re the nicest staff I’ve ever met, warm, accommodating, friendly, and down to earth. I was sold when I saw the pictures and read it’s been around since 1800.
