La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Chicago Willowbrook

We drove 6 hours today only to find the hotel closed. Other reviews say this location is CONDEMNED, and it still shows as available without any advance notice, even though it's been closed for over a month. We did manage to find another place at short notice, but if you've already booked, do yourself a favor and cancel.

This was one of the dirtiest, most unprofessional hotels I've stayed in. Stains on the carpet, broken furniture, and holes in the sheets and towels. The lot hadn't been plowed properly, mud covered the lobby, and the staff weren't welcoming. The elevator and ice machines were broken, and handmade signs were everywhere. There were chunks missing from the walls. I couldn't feel comfortable sleeping under those sheets, so I left as soon as I could.

The staff were mostly polite, but this was the worst hotel of the many I've stayed in on my trips this summer. Our bathroom smelled of rancid sewage, the shower head was dirty, the carpets were stained, and the hallway was constantly soaking wet. There was also a weed smell in the entryway. Quiet hours weren't enforced, with people cussing and slamming doors at 2am. Someone burned toast early in the morning and set off the fire alarm, waking us up. When we asked the front desk for a wash rag, they didn't know what that was and gave us a beach-sized towel twice. No bed bugs, at least. It was okay to crash for the night, but left a lot to be desired. I won't be back.

We're not fussy about hotels, but this smell was unbearable. There was a little machine plugged in and running when we arrived, which we googled and found was meant to remove odors. It didn't help at all. I went to the desk right away to ask about it and request another room, but the person there brushed me off and said no. Then housekeeping came in without knocking or warning to take the machine, clearly not knowing we were inside. We went to a concert and came back to the same smell. We couldn't even fall asleep, and the hotel ignored our messages. My husband and I have traveled all over and never been this unhappy with a hotel.
