Baymont by Wyndham Wilmington

We canceled less than 30 minutes after checking in, but they still refused to refund the cost of all four nights. The place was disgusting: black mold, spider webs everywhere, sticky floors, a gross shower, a filthy freezer, and unacceptable walls, bedding, and chair. There wasn't even a coffee pot. Nothing matched what was advertised. I have 31 pictures of what I described. I'll contact the local health department, an attorney, and the NC Attorney Generals office. I waited for the “manager,” who was supposedly “in a meeting” but was sitting on a lobby couch, to get my refund. I was told it would come by the end of the day. It's now been eight days and they refuse to refund me. Maybe they think I won't follow through because I live in another state, but I have family in Wilmington and visit often. DO NOT STAY HERE!

This was the worst motel I've ever stayed in. The photos are false advertising, and you will regret booking here. I asked for an extra bed, but the young skinny Indian woman at the desk said I hadn't requested one. I showed her on my phone, then she said they had none. I asked for two smaller beds instead of one king since my wife and son were with me, but they said they were overbooked. They tried putting us in a room with one king bed. It was filthy, with dried urine on the toilet seat, a dirty bathtub, and sand all over the floor. They sent us to another room, which looked like a crime scene: a bloody washcloth on the bed, towels scattered on the floor, and trash everywhere. I went straight to the office without checking the bathroom and asked the woman to inspect it without me explaining what was wrong. She refused at first and told me to say what the problem was. I finally said it was dirty. About five minutes later she came in, looked around, and gasped loudly. I should have taken photos because it sounds unbelievable. She apologized and said I could ask Booking.com for a refund or she could prorate the room. She took pictures of it as if it were an actual crime scene. She offered to get us a room with two beds in the morning if we stayed the night, but I declined. After looking at several rooms, she found one for us to check. It looked cleaner, though still not perfect. Since it was late, we accepted, thinking she'd move us to a double bed in the morning. She said she'd be back with keys in five minutes, but took so long that I went to the office several times to look for her. I finally saw her taking pizza boxes and garbage bags from other motel rooms while I waited. More than half an hour later, I went back again and found she'd returned to get the keys. I asked whether she'd prorate the price or still move us to a double room for our trouble. She said, “no, I got you a clean room and you will be charged full price for what you received.” While I was walking back and forth looking for her, my 16-year-old son said he heard someone in the second Baymount building screaming, “help me, somebody help me!!!” The next morning, we found a black purse alone at the bottom of the stairwell, as if someone had had it snatched. Don't stay here. Their response will probably be “Sorry for the inconvenience.” This place should be condemned.

We booked a non-smoking room, but the whole place reeked of smoke as soon as we walked in. The room was filthy, with dirty floors, stained furniture, and a disgusting bathroom. People were sleeping in cars in the parking lot, and sketchy characters were hanging around. We were meant to stay two nights, but checked in around 1 a.m. and left by 7 a.m. to find another hotel. It was that bad. Avoid this place. Saving a few dollars isn't worth putting your health and safety at risk. This motel needs to be shut down.

It's okay for a cheap two-star hotel. There was a bug in the shower, which I washed away, and the bathroom fan barely worked.
