Holiday Inn Express Wilmington by IHG

We were happy with our stay and will definitely return. The hotel has a pool, workout room, and laundry, and the complimentary breakfast was good. It wasn't made to order, so choices were limited, and the food was prepared in batches for self-service. Still, they made small enough batches that everything stayed hot. I had a cheese omelette, sausage gravy and biscuits, and linked sausages twice, and was satisfied each time. The gentleman who checked us in was friendly and professional. We've stayed here before and came back because we liked it. The room smelled clean and was clean, and I checked for bugs as I always do. There were none.

Carina's breakfast service was so nice that she made our mornings easier than we expected. We stayed six days, and the staff were very kind. The room was clean and tidy when we arrived, and the location worked well for all the places we wanted to visit.

After a long drive, I got to the hotel around 9:30 at night only to realize I had gone to the wrong Holiday Inn in Wilmington. Donavan at the desk had one room left and helped sort it out. He called the other Holiday Inn to cancel my reservation and make sure they would credit my card, then booked me into the last room here. I was so relieved I didn't have to drive somewhere else. They also did their best to match the online rate I'd booked at the other hotel. My room was clean and spacious, with a king bed and pullout sofa, and the rest of the staff were just as friendly as Donavan. I'll definitely book here again.

This was the worst Holiday Inn Express stay I've had. At arrival, I asked about using my Priority Club, but the staff member said it would cost the same and didn't want to check. The night before, another Holiday Inn Express in Kentucky had looked it up, and it did make a difference. Our room door was badly damaged, as shown in the pictures. The lower lock wouldn't engage, and the upper one wouldn't slide all the way across. The bathroom door wouldn't close, and there was a bug crawling down the wall that looked suspiciously like a roach. The bed was awful, with a cheap, thin mattress where I could nearly feel the springs. Our backs are in a lot of pain, and we slept badly. The shower also lost hot water five minutes in. The woman who checked us out the next morning was the best part of the stay: very friendly and helpful, apologetic about the room, and she offered reward points. We were in room #111.
