Homewood Suites Wilmington/Mayfaire

We've stayed here around six times while visiting Wilmington, and every visit has been great, from the cleanliness to breakfast. The pool area is kept up nicely, and the room layout gives us the space we need to sit as well as sleep. A full-size refrigerator is a rare bonus!

The staff were kind, everything was in order, and my baby was welcome since the hotel is pet-friendly. The woman looking after breakfast was especially sweet. This place checked every box for a quick celebration weekend after I was recently declared cancer-free and needed a chance to breathe. It's a 10/10 from me, 20/10 actually. I'll definitely be back. We first stayed here in November 2024 and came back in April 2026, but it felt like a completely different hotel. We booked the same room type and paid $555 for 2 nights, which is not exactly cheap. The whole room smelled like cheap toilet cleaner, so badly that it was hard to breathe. My husband and son are both very sensitive to smells. The bathroom was tiny with rusty details and water damage from above. The room wasn't the spacious studio or step-in shower shown in the description and photos. The carpet was disgusting to look at, let alone walk on. The dresser drawers kept sliding open by themselves, so I had to keep pushing them shut to avoid bumping my knee or having the kids get hurt. There was no air at all, and I woke up the first night feeling like I was suffocating. Breakfast was below par, the couch felt like landing on the floor whenever we sat down, and the chair was stained and obviously filthy. The room also hadn't been cleaned at noon. At 4 am, when I came into the kitchen, someone was yanking our door handle. They came back 45 minutes later and did it again. It also looked like someone was trying to get into our car through the trunk at night. Never again. I'm disappointed and wish I could get a refund for all this unpleasantness. It's well placed between Wrightsville and Downtown, and close to the airport. The breakfast staff were attentive, efficient, and friendly, while the front desk team were very welcoming. Alongside the usual breakfast options, I liked being able to make a breakfast burrito or taco, and they even had vegan chorizo. The pool was pleasant and a nice temperature, and I enjoyed the hot tub. There's ample parking, plus a grocery store, restaurants, and an Orange Theory gym nearby.
