Sleep Inn Wilson near I-95

I booked a non-smoking room, but both the hallway and room reeked of cigarette smoke, marijuana, and mold. The air was so bad I coughed all night. When I raised the issue, the front desk said they were sold out and had no clean room to move me to. They still couldn’t relocate me until mid-afternoon the next day, leaving me without anywhere to stay or keep my belongings, so I checked out early because the room felt unsafe. I didn’t stay the second night, but the hotel wouldn’t approve a refund and blamed Expedia. Expedia confirmed the hotel refused to authorize one, even though they may have rented the room again after I left. Management takes no responsibility, lies about offering solutions, and ignores real health and cleanliness concerns. Other reviews make this look like a pattern. Disgusting rooms and horrible service. Avoid this place.

We booked The Sleep Inn after the woman I’d been speaking with about reservations at Comfort Suites suggested it as a sister hotel across the street. We were with my daughters’ soccer team. When we arrived Friday at 11:30 p.m., after a 4.5-hour drive, the entire building smelled like people had been smoking blunts nonstop. We had two 13-year-old girls and our 6-year-old son with us, and they should never have been exposed to that. There were also sketchy-looking people hanging around. The bathroom had mold and mildew around the shower head. The room was dirty, with ashes and what looked like blunt paraphernalia on one bed, and the carpet was so disgusting I wouldn’t walk barefoot on it. We couldn’t find another hotel that late, and with the soccer tournament at 7 a.m. we tried to sleep anyway. I got three hours. We went to the tournament, then came back at 10 a.m. Saturday to check out and told the front desk what was wrong. We contacted booking for a refund because we weren’t staying another night. They said they needed to do an “Investigation,” but we never got an answer yesterday. This morning booking.com confirmed they wouldn’t arrange a refund for a night we didn’t even stay, even though we checked out before 11 a.m. Saturday and are still being charged through Sunday. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It was dirty, there were drugs and other illegal activity, and I’m highly disappointed. Photo included for reference of the moldy, mildewed shower head.

Melissa King at the front desk told me late checkout wasn’t an option: checkout is at 11:00 AM, and paying extra wouldn’t change that. The rooms need upgrading, breakfast isn’t fully complimentary and is limited to waffles and oatmeal, and there’s no workout facility. With those issues, I won’t be back.

I’ve stayed with Sleep Inn for several years because I like the rooms, but staff who are as kind and professional as the gentleman at this last hotel are hard to find. The person at the front desk treated me with warmth and respect and was so willing to help. He deserves recognition, and other staff should be trained to be like him.
