The Birches Motel

For what it costs, I expected better finishes or for broken things to be fixed before guests arrived. The glass room door only has a translucent fabric curtain, so with the lights on, your whole backside is plainly visible from outside. The so-called mini fridge on the "balcony" was a thermoelectric drink cooler and wouldn't get below 40F, which wasn't great with the room feeling like an oven. The place seems to have had a pleasant boutique-style renovation within the past 5-10 years, but some cheap work is now worn. There are calcium deposits on faucets, rust and corrosion on metal fixtures and decor, cracks near windows and the shower, weak air conditioners, and bent baseboard covers coming loose. The heat kept running regardless of the thermostat, and the ceiling lights were inconsistent with the switches. When I arrived, the AC wouldn't start and the heat stayed on throughout my visit despite warm weather and the thermostat set to “Heat: Off.” I couldn't reach the office for nearly an hour, though once I did, they sent someone to get the AC working. The temperature never went below 70. The place was clean and fine, but overpriced for its quality and advertised features.

The rooms were just like the pictures and really clean. We appreciated having AC for our visit at this time of year. The staff were kind and communicated openly. We had an amazing stay and would come back.

The breakfast sandwich vouchers were a thoughtful extra, so be sure to pick them up. The frozen raviolis are worth grabbing too, they're so good. We found the room cute and very clean, and the manager was attentive and helpful. Good prices and a great location. I'd recommend it for your next Toga outing, you can't go wrong.

It's a charming little alternative to the big chains, and I'd recommend it. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the bathroom came with shower products. Entry is digital, and the manager was very accommodating. There's a voucher for a breakfast sandwich at the diner next door, though we didn't use it and had other delicious food instead. It was a perfectly fine stay. If you expect concierge service, this isn't the place for you.
